Love Unreturned
  JERRY BROWNING

 ..FOLLOWING SEAS

Love Unreturned

dear Uncle Sam
i don’t understand
i meant business
when i vowed to defend
the constitution

you know i’m the poet
an American classic
you can’t pull me
from the fire
the emotional history
will be lost

i sailed for you
i suffered for you
i killed for you
i was willing to die
for you
now you turn your back
on me
WHY

my pride’s wounded
deeper than the path
of any enemy’s bullet
but, i won’t abandon you
i can’t
i’ll criticize like always
rest assured
i won’t turn
