birds look and laugh

at the man in a cage

bone-gray confinement

wraps hideous fingers

‘round my throat

pressing slowly

painlessly…

but i know their motives

i search the blue sky

and in the shadows

of a cloud

   i sit waiting…

         aching…

            tediously scheming…

sweet freedom
