To A Son Unknown
  JERRY BROWNING

 BROKEN COMPASS

To A Son Unknown

the first born is blessed
and i thought it best
to rid you of your mother’s pain
and your father’s wrath
were you?

innocent, unknown child
conceived in lust,
I deceived and abused
your loving young mother
because i didn’t need you

make her discard you
and part of herself
for me…
thought i was free

but when shadows come creeping
you run to me weeping
in my dreams…
a splinter in my soul

you wait for me
on the threshold

what will i say?
